About Us

We believe that everyone should have access to affordable, high-quality behavioral and mental health care

Who We Are

For more than 50 years, Chicago-area communities that are often underserved by the health care system have relied on H.A.S. for comprehensive, personalized care.

Through a continuum of programs addressing substance abuse, mental health, adolescent issues, family relationships, and more, we make recovery available to everyone, regardless of insurance eligibility or financial status. Every year, we help nearly 8,000 individuals take the first steps to long-term recovery and a more fulfilling, joyful life.

Our Approach

In order to provide effective care and treatment, we offer behavioral health services that are holistic, personalized, and people-centered. Every person who walks through our doors receives a treatment plan customized to help them obtain lasting success. To ensure we can provide the most effective treatment, we actively partake in leading-edge research into innovative methodologies.

Because we believe that the prosperity and health of individuals, families, and communities are interrelated, we embrace a philosophy of compassion and communal responsibility that defines our multi-faceted approach to behavioral health.

We strengthen individuals and families with programs that optimize personal wellbeing and healthy relationships. In addition, we work closely with an extended network of community partners that allows us to reach beyond the walls of our facilities and provide our participants with high-quality, comprehensive services both during and after their time at H.A.S.

Recognizing that unified, flourishing communities are instrumental to individual and family welfare, we provide programs that cultivate family-friendly communities and strive to serve our communities as well as the community partners who support us in our mission in any way we can.

Most of our staff is bilingual, and we offer our services in both English and Spanish. To build an environment that is respectful of all cultures, H.A.S. employs a multi-cultural and diverse team across all disciplines.

We provide services with a sliding fee scale and do not withhold services to clients who are unable to pay.

Our Partnerships

Throughout our 50+ years in the community, H.A.S. has worked with hospitals, social service agencies, universities, and research organizations to provide treatment and social services to individuals and their families and fill existing gaps in healthcare services.

A certified Medicaid provider and a member agency of United Way/Crusade of Mercy, H.A.S. partners with numerous provider networks which include Health Maintenance Organizations, Preferred Provider Organizations, Employee Assistance Programs, and Managed Care Organizations.

As a nonprofit organization, donations allow us to give support and hope to individuals, families, and communities. We give our heartfelt thanks to benefactors who are passionate about improving the safety of their communities and extending help to individuals who feel trapped by mental illness and addiction.
