Marco E. Jacome

Marco E. Jacome
With more than 35 years dedicated to social services, Marco joined H.A.S. as program director in 1984 and has been CEO of H.A.S. since 1992.
As CEO, Marco has led the organization through tremendous growth, including quadrupling the operating budget and expanding from four facilities to 14. In 1999, Marco oversaw H.A.S.’s accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF).
Prior to H.A.S., Marco held board positions with the Norwegian American Hospital Foundation, the Illinois Association for Behavioral Health, the Northern Illinois Employee Assistance Professionals Association, and the Great Lakes Addiction Technology Transfer Center. His many awards include being named one of Hispanic Business magazine’s 100 most influential individuals.
Marco holds a bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Sociology from North Park University and a graduate degree in Family and Community Counseling from Northeastern University. He has also participated in fellowships through the School of Public Health at Boston University and Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government. Additionally, he is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) through the State of Illinois, a Certified Employee Assistance Professional (CEAP), and an Illinois Certified Supervisor Addictions Counselor (CSADC).
Millie Adan

Millie Adan
Millie M. Adan, is currently the Chief Operating Officer (COO) and has held the position as the Vice President Human Resources & Corporate Compliance Officer at (H.A.S.) for six years before being promoted. As the Vice President of Human Resources, she implemented strategic human resource management strategies, which includes all aspects of recruitment, training, and retention initiatives.
Millie as COO, is currently responsible for implementing and overseeing the overall business operations strategy as an experienced operational manager, strategic thought partner and leader of organizational culture. She currently assists the CEO with designing and integrating organization wide, cross-team systems and processes and operationalizing the strategic plan with a human-centered focus.
Millie has served as the Chief Human Resources Officer of SOS Children’s Villages of Illinois, and a Workforce Planning Supervisor and Industrial Engineer Supervisor at United Parcel Service, Inc. (UPS). In these capacities, Millie was responsible for developing and implementing on-boarding, analyzed work methods and procedures/processes, enhanced workplace performance measures, developed master operating plans, training and development, performance management, employee retention, benefit management, operations/scheduling management, QA Development, IT Oversite, oversaw employee relations (union environment), H.R. Marketing, developed policies and strategies.
Millie holds a Master’s in Business Administration from National Louis University, a Master’s in Strategic Human Resource Management and Development from National Louis University and has a Bachelor of Science, Business Administration from Saint Xavier University. She is certified through the Society for Human Resource Management – Certified Professional (SHRM-CP), is certified by Human Capital Institute (HCI) as a Strategic H.R. Business Partner (sHRBP); and certified in Foundations of Nonprofit Management and Nonprofit Marketing Strategy issued by Nonprofit Leadership Alliance (CNP).
Currently, Millie serves on the following Boards: ASI Board President, Lakeside Community Committee Board (Board Member), Hamdard Community Health Center Inc. (Board Member) and sat on the Employee Advisory Board for the College Career Consortium of Illinois (CCCIllinois). She has volunteered at Latinos Progresando Inc. and Oak Leyden Developmental Services.
Tom Hartmann

Tom Hartmann
After 14 years running his family’s business, Tom transitioned into the healthcare field, where he has successfully launched four different electronic health record systems over the course of his career. In his role at H.A.S., Tom helps manage all program data as well as the agency’s technology systems. Tom is a graduate of Northern Illinois University.
Melissa Fentress

Melissa Fentress
Melissa has been at H.A.S. since 2018, helping oversee all aspects of the agency’s financial health, including budgets, tax and accounting, and grant administration. Before H.A.S., she served as the business manager for Providence St. Mel, a private school in Chicago’s Garfield Park neighborhood, and the finance coordinator at Deborah’s Place.
Phillip Buta

Phillip Buta
With more than 20 years devoted to building the capacity of social service and educational organizations to meet the evolving needs of those they serve, Phillip recently joined HAS in January 2023. He oversees the development and communications team that is charged with increasing the revenue and visibility of the organization.
Phillip previously held positions at Pritzker Military Museum and Library, Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Chicago, and Chicago Public Schools and has taken prominent roles in revenue generation, strategic planning, resource allocation, and marketing/communications.
He actively volunteers in his community, including serving on the River Forest District 90 Inclusiveness Advisory Board and the River Forest Township Mental Health Committee. Phillip has a BA from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and a MA from Michigan State University.
