H.A.S. will join hundreds of other organizations for a friendly competition to raise funds for domestic violence programs
Chicago, IL —
Healthcare Alternative Systems is participating in the Allstate Foundation’s Purple Purse Challenge, an annual friendly fundraising competition in which nonprofit organizations serving domestic violence survivors compete to raise funds. Held during Domestic Violence Awareness Month—from October 2-31—the money raised during the campaign will go directly to the ¡Basta! program.
¡Basta! (“Enough!”) is a domestic violence (DV) program designed to meet the domestic violence prevention, intervention, and treatment needs of both English- and Spanish-speaking residents in predominantly Hispanic, low-income neighborhoods in Chicago and surrounding areas. Intimate partner violence accounts for 15% of all crimes and is a pervasive issue among individuals of all backgrounds, ethnicities, and income brackets. Domestic violence doesn’t just affect the immediate victims, but it impacts entire families and communities.
¡Basta! provides intensive, individualized support for various DV survivor groups, including those who are in immediate danger, those who have experienced DV in the past and require help managing trauma, and those in need of legal services. All program participants receive empathetic, effective care and are provided with the comprehensive resources needed for a full, meaningful recovery. In fiscal year 2018, ¡Basta! served 142 individuals.
H.A.S. has set a goal of raising $2,000 during the Purple Purse Challenge. In addition to the numerous fundraising challenges the organization will be participating in during October, H.A.S. will hold a fundraising event at Hopewell Brewing Company (2760 N. Milwaukee Ave.) in Logan Square on October 24 at 6 p.m. with numerous raffle prizes such as restaurant gift certificates, a private shopping event, tickets to iO, and much more. One of the biggest draws of the evening will be a purple purse designed by Serena Williams! For more information about DV and to donate to ¡Basta! through the Purple Purse Challenge, visit our campaign page starting October 2. Gifts of all sizes make an impact for survivors of domestic violence and their families—your gift could change a life.
