Youth Treatment
The Youth Treatment Program at HAS serves adolescents and young adults who can benefit from substance abuse or chemical dependency treatment services on an outpatient basis, and who are able to remain abstinent from drugs and alcohol without the need for a highly intensive outpatient or residential program. These services are culturally competent, gender and age specific, and bilingual.
Youth entering the program receive comprehensive assessments by skilled professionals in order to find the best match between degree of need and services recommended. Those who are admitted into the outpatient substance abuse program receive group, individual, and family counseling as needed.
HAS offers one of only a few youth outpatient programs to apply the evidence-based Adolescent Community Reinforcement Approach. A-CRA’s main goal is to rearrange participants’ vocational, family, and social reinforcers in order to discourage the use of alcohol and other drugs. Our A-CRA-certified supervisor and clinicians help youth develop positive coping skills such as problem solving, communication skills, anger management, and job readiness. The program motivates participants to remain abstinent, participate in prosocial activities, and develop positive relationships. It also encourages their caregivers to support and motivate them in these goals.
In addition to working closely with families, the treatment team works collaboratively with schools and other referral sources. We also coordinate services with juvenile probation and police departments when appropriate.
