Substance Abuse Treatment at the Women’s Program

Substance Abuse_Women's Program

HAS understands that women facing addictions experience a unique set of challenges, and we offer a variety of gender-specific, culturally competent programs designed to meet their needs.  Participants in the HAS Women’s Program learn about the disease process of alcoholism and drug addiction, work with staff to understand and accept their own chemical dependence, and explore healthy life-styles that do not include alcohol and drug use.  They also work closely with staff to create their own recovery plans.   To meet the needs of women requiring more intensive treatment, HAS has a referral relationship with the women’s residential program Sisterhouse.

Each participant takes part in educational seminars regarding different aspects of addiction, as well as individual, group, employer, and family counseling sessions.  HAS provides its own weekly AA groups in English and Spanish.  Attendance at outside self-help groups (AA, NA, CA) is also strongly encouraged, as it is important that participants begin to build a support system and to establish healthier relationships in a drug-free environment.
