HIV/AIDS Education and Outreach

HIV Outreach and Education

HAS offers several programs for individuals who have been diagnosed with HIV/AIDS or are at high risk of contracting the virus.

Case Management Services

HIV-positive participants have the opportunity to work with a case manager to develop a plan that meets their specific needs. Services offered include help with securing housing assistance, CTA/Cab transportation services, food vouchers, SSI and Public Assistance, legal aid, medical assistance, and job counseling. If an individual has been diagnosed with AIDS or is debilitated in the HIV phase of the disease, a case manager can also provide referral resources including home health, alternative therapy resources, environmental modifications, and nursing help.

Early Intervention (Counseling and Testing Services)

HAS offers participants concerned about their HIV status access to assessment, individual pre-test counseling, confidential or anonymous testing, and post-test counseling.  Risk-reduction education and safe sex counseling are also provided.

SISTA

HAS is proud to offer the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s SISTA (Sisters Informing Sisters about Topics in AIDS) program for women at risk of contracting HIV.  The SISTA program supplements HIV education with assertiveness training, relationship skills, and self-esteem building lessons designed to give women the confidence to engage in healthy sexual behaviors.

HAS is committed to improving quality of life, relieving suffering, and providing hope and support to all individuals impacted by HIV/AIDS.  All services are completely confidential, offered in a caring, supportive environment, and available in both English and Spanish.
